Reactivation of the varicella zoster virus results in shingles, which presents as a painful, band-shaped rash of blisters surrounding the left or right side of the torso. It can also appear on the arms, thighs, or head, including the eyes and ears. The most affected areas are the chest and abdominal area.3,4,8,11

The rash resulting from shingles on the back may take the form of a line of fluid-filled blisters that appear on one side of the back or in the lower back.7

Shingles can cause a painful rash in the form of a band of blisters surrounding the left or right side of the torso.7

Symptoms of shingles may appear on the head and face, where the rash forms on one side of the face, whether on the forehead, around the eyes, or nose.7,10

One common area affected by shingles is the chest, in the form of a line of fluid-filled blisters that appear on one side of the chest.7

Symptoms of shingles may appear on the back or palm of the hand and arm. This occurs in the form of fluid-filled blisters and may appear on one side only.12
